Rapidly Becoming

collaborations

Summary

Five choreographers; twelve young dancers; an artistic experiment. Rapidly Becoming is multiple things at once: a performance, a choreographic process, a methodology for collaboration, a framework for producing art, an educational project. The title alludes to the process of creation: the word rapidly renders the sense of rapidity and the dynamics during the creation of a play, while becoming denotes a process of continuous redefinition and evolution. Without an a priori set of themes or aesthetics, Rapidly Becoming will capture the process of creating a collective work, aiming to merge the five artists’ diverse voices into a seamless work of a common choreographic style, with an emphasis on the end product and a cohesive yet startling dramaturgy. The team of choreographers, along with new performers and other collaborators will collectively bring this work to life, employing body, movement, speech, sound, light, and the stage.

7 / 9+1 Choreographic Workshop

Summary

A choreographic workshop and a performance designed and implemented by the collective Syndesmos Chorou: Tzeni Argiriou, Vasso Giannakopoulou, Maria Koliopoulou, Menti Mega and Katerina Skiada. The idea of the 7+1 workshop was presented for the first time with great success at the Kalamata International Dance Festival in 2011. The workshop gives the opportunity to professional dancers, amateurs and people without any previous experience, to work with different choreographers of the Dance Association. The purpose of the activities is to offer the participants the opportunity to come together through dance, to get to know movement, modern dance, the creative process and also to gain the experience of a performance. During the workshops, the participants are divided into groups which are assigned to be choreographed by different choreographers. More specifically, within 7 or 9 days of rehearsals, each group will compose a choreography, thus approaching the process of creation, in the light of the Association’s groups, thus knowing their techniques and methodology. On the last day of rehearsals, all participants and choreographers meet on stage to put together the pieces they have created, followed by a performance open to the public on the next day.

Dance Association “Syndesmos Chorou”

The Dance Association “Syndesmos Chorou” was founded in 2009 by the groups Amorphy, Lemurius, Fora etc, Dalika and Proschima. In 2013, Yelp and Zita were added to these groups. The ultimate purpose of the Association is, based on the principles it investigates, to develop the idea of a Greek network dance, which will create a sense of community for the people of the wider field of dance and performing arts.
The Association gathers the groups seeking to investigate through practice this collective model in the modern Greek dance context. Its goals are to create a sense of community for the people of the wider dance space, to lead to collective actions, but also to offer opportunities for dialogue. As a whole, these groups have lasting and many years of experience in the field of dance and have to their credit a multitude of participations and distinctions in Greek and international festivals.
Characteristic of the work of the association’s groups is diversity, and for this reason the aesthetic direction and choreographic style of each group differ significantly. But what unites them on an artistic level is research, as an integral part of their creative process. So whether they are testing the limits of physical expressiveness, or experimenting with new technological means, or dealing with the interpretation of contemporary phenomena, what brings them together is their willingness to think together and act for the development of the art of dance in the country us.
